DEATH OF AN OLD COLONIST
Mr Matthew Thomas Harvey, one of the oldest residents in the district, passed away on Tuesday night. Deceased, who resided at the home of his son-in-law, Mr George Snead, grocer, in High Street, retired last night apparently in his usual health. This morning, as deceased did not appear at breakfast, his daughter, Mrs Snead, went to look for him. She found him lying in bed, dead, with his hands folded across his breast. A doctor was summoned, and he said that death had taken place about two hours previously.
Deceased was a colonist of 54 years’ standing, 36 of which he spent in the Echuca district. He was formerly engaged in the saw milling industry. Deceased was well liked and generally respected. He was a native of Cornwall, and was 80 years old.
